Great Ideas for Christening Keepsakes

A baby’s christening or baptism is a very special occasion.  It is the very first step in their spiritual life.  It's important for the parents, godparents and family members to create lasting momentos for the baby since they are too young to have their own first-hand memories.

There are always the popular items that are known to make treasured keepsakes, but there are many other ideas that might get overlooked.  For example, saving one of the invitations that were mailed to guests will make a wonderful momento to be placed in a special scrapbook.

Here is a list of some other baptism and christening items that can be used as  memorabeliacreating treasured memories for years to come.

  • Gown or Outfit – Choosing heirloom quality fabric and proper storage will help preserve the gown or outfit for future generations or just as a lasting remembrance.
  • Accessories (socks, shoes, bib, blanket, bonnet, towel) - They all add an extra special touch to the gown or outfit and make great mementos.
  • Jewelry – A delicate baby bracelet or petite cross necklace will add to the beauty of the baby's outfit and can be kept as a precious token of this special day.
  • Favors – These are perfect for showing appreciation to guests and providing them with a take-home gift.  Many types of favors can be personalized .
  • Certificate – This is a great way to create a written record of the baptism or christening that can be framed and displayed.
  • Personalized Baptism Gifts – These are normally items designed specifically for the occasion such as a photo album, photo frame, Bible, cross plaque, or commemorative candle.  They are extra special because they usually display the baby's name and date of ceremony.

With the responsibility of helping the child grow in their spirituality, Godparents should especially consider presenting their godchild with a special keepsake gift.  The beginning of a baby's spiritual life is their christening or baptism so there should always be memories of this momentous occasion.  There are also special godchild, goddaughter, and godson gifts available for personalization.

Personalized keepsakes are a wonderful way to honor the memory of  the baby’s christening or baptism through the years as they grow  in their spirituality.  Remember to also have plenty of pictures taken the day of the event to add to a photo album or scrapbook as a souvenir of the occasion.

Features of a Great Child Safety Seat

Among the highest goals for any parent is baby safety. One of the key elements in that plan is selecting the right safety seat for the car. Here are a few things to look for when trying to find that perfect model.

The first considerations are age and weight. Infants under age one should be provided with a safety seat specifically tailored to their size. It should also be rear facing and not intended for use by older babies.

The average weight for a child between the ages of one and four is about 20 to 40 pounds. Of course, they're also taller than small babies, and they keep increasing in height as they get older. That opens up the possibility of a forward-facing car seat, which is a little more convenient for parents. It should still be installed in the back seat, though.

The good news is that you don't have to give up convenience to achieve these goals. Some styles can be converted. That is, they can be turned from a rear-facing position to forward-facing with a few simple movements. But don't forget about the specifications concerning weight and age.

It's essential that the car seat you use meets some minimum standards. It's important to look for a seat with a five point harness feature. So the parents can use the car's safety belt to fasten the baby seat at the shoulders, hips and between the legs. That provides a very stable, secure platform.

An overhead shield is also a useful option. These padded covers circle down and around the infant. A variation is the T-shield, a padded T-shaped section that attaches to the shoulder straps.

Look for models with a tether at the top that can be attached from the top of the child's car seat to an anchor point in the car. This provides additional safety. Some have a system called LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children). This eliminates the need to use the car's safety belts which, after all, were designed for larger children and adults. The car seat attaches, instead, entirely to the anchors.

Extra safety and comfort is provided by baby car safety seats that safely allow for adding or subtracting padding or blankets. As well, parents don't have to spend as much time making adjustments to the seat for a good fit. That's a situation in which no-one loses. Some even have integrated travel vests that can be buckled around the child.

That same double theme of safety and convenience is carried on by seat designs that make it easy to insert and adjust the restraining straps. Parents are busy people and it's all too easy to take an occasional shortcut. But no one wants to sacrifice safety. A model that needs just a few seconds to put in or move is the answer to all of those issues.

A Baby Shower Cake With A Difference

Possibly you were thinking that baby shower cakes were merely a tasty dessert served at the party... Well, that is certainly one kind of cake. But there is another kind of baby shower cake which is filled with all kinds of useful gifts for the expectant mom. One very popular choice in this area is a gift which really does remind you of a multi-tiered wedding cake. But rather than being made of sugar and flour and eggs, it is made from the one thing that a new mother can never have too many of - diapers.

These ingenious and decorative baby shower cakes make the perfect gift for the occasion. Everyone thinks of giving diapers to the expectant mother and she will certainly use them. However giving diapers in this way turns a necessary but dull gift into an occasion for laughter for the guests and the mom-to-be.

At approximately 32 inches high, you will see these cakes hold many of these necessities. A baby cap, booties, a terry cloth towel and several other clothing items are part of the package too.

Even the somewhat smaller two-tiered baby shower cakes can offer dozens of valuable gifts and makes a great decoration as a centerpiece for the baby shower table. Simply peel off the outer layers and enjoy the teething ring, rattle, pacifier and more which will certainly be used. Open it up and find a manicure set, a brush and comb, socks and many other equally useful presents.

A few baby shower cakes will house only decorative gifts, but these too will be highly appreciated by the mom-to-be. Silk roses and ceramic baby blocks and much more set on a silver platter mean that this is one gift that will not be hidden away the closet once the party is over. You'll find the blocks lining the shelf in the baby's room and the silk roses on the mantle, while the silver platter is used to liven up the table on special occasions.

And, don't forget of course to order the real thing for the shower while you're at it.

Too Many choices When It Comes To Buying Infant Clothing

When it comes to infant clothes there is no scarcity of imagination or attempts at humor. Many Mom's and Dad's find themselves at a loss of how much and what size to get. There are styles from multiple outlets that meet everyone's sense of humor, sense of style and their sense of budget. The one thing most parents keep in mind when buying baby clothing is the fact that the infant probably will not wear it for very long.

From the moment a child is born until he or she reaches maturity, there are constant and unpredictable periods of growth. These spurts can make it hard to determine what size the baby will be wearing from one week to the next and, even if there is a major sale on infant clothing, many Mom's and Dad's are disinclined to purchase too many clothes as the baby will outgrow some of them before they have the chance to wear them.

Getting baby clothing as gifts for someone's baby can be equally as troublesome, as the infant can grow dramatically in a few short weeks and an outfit that might be the perfect size the day it is bought may be too small when they receive the gift. For the most part it is better to buy baby clothing that is bigger than needed, giving the infant an opportunity to grow into it instead of having a dresser full of stuff they cannot wear.

Shopping For Sizes Can Be Very Difficult

Complicating the process of buying infant clothing even more than the growth spurts are the makers who seemingly do not follow any strict guidelines on how their clothing is sized. A child who fits perfectly in a toddler size four from one company but a size four from a different manufacturer can either be too big or too small.

Most companies also confuse those who do not have children, with their sizes of baby clothing by marking it for months, or in rare cases by the infant's weight. Infant clothing is generally sized by months indicating an outfit will fit an infant. For example, from zero to three months or three to six months of age. Most Mom's and Dad's learn fast that the age of the child is rarely a proper indicator of the size of their babies clothing.

Most Mom's and Dad's will but from discounted merchandise outlets when it comes to buying baby clothing, knowing that the child will likely grow out of it after one or two times of wearing it. Buying pricey designer infant clothing may make the Mom's and Dad's feel proud when they take their baby to visit relatives, but the need for frequent replacement may soon succumb to common sense.

Baby Blankets Can Make Memorable Baby Shower Gifts

It is never easy to come up with gift ideas for a baby shower but a baby blanket might just be the answer to earning yourself the "best gift" award at the party. With a wide range of original and clever designs available today you cannot go wrong here with these unique baby shower gifts.

But, what could possibly be more ordinary than a baby blanket you say? Used for hundreds of years to swath a baby and provide needed warmth, it's hard to see someone coming up with a new idea for a blanket. Well guess again. Baby blankets have discovered whole new heights of fun and creativity.

"Pigs in a Blanket" is just one example that combines both a clever design and a practical gift. This two-piece gift set will generate lots of "awws" and "oohs" when the guest of honor opens the decorative gift box which comprises a charming vintage container topped with an organza bow.

Inside the box is a plush blanket that can be printed with a memorable phrase or simply personalized. It is wrapped around an even lovelier pig in the style of a teddy bear that will quickly become the baby's favorite. Manufactured in a stain-resistant polyester which will wear for many years, it could very well even be handed down to the next generation of the family.

The gift also includes a child's story book rhyme designed to complement the two other items. "This Little Piggy" printed on the back was never such fun and the five little piggies dancing on the front are in agreement.

Another gift which is just as much fun is the JoJo Giraffe toy that comes with its own very special blanket inside its own keepsake box. Standing 20 inches high it will sit proudly in the corner until the baby can no longer resist the temptation to play with it... which will take about five seconds. With his legs and arms wrapped around a multi-colored keepsake box done in similar style, JoJo is undoubtedly a perfect gift.

The blanket that comes with the gift adds greatly to the delight that both baby and mom will receive from this beautiful item. Very easily personalized with the baby's name, the sunshine yellow fleece of the blanket is soothing and warm. And, at 40 inches by 30 inches, it is ample size for use as a decorative bed cover or a baby blanket.

But baby blankets that are standalone items can make perfect gifts. One excellent example of this is The Maddie's Meadow. Brightly and colorfully decorated with flowers and butterflies on a pink background, it's very inviting. The gift box itself carries the same theme with bright green grass and fluffy pink clouds which will remind mom of the joys of spring. Personalization is also easily achieved because of the generous satin border that surrounds the soft fleece.

Which Double Stroller Is Right For You?

Is baby number two on the way or are you expecting twins? Then you definitely need a double stroller!

Before you begin, you need to determine which stroller is best for you. For example, it doesn't make sense to purchase the same double stroller your friend raves about if you're an avid runner and her favorite hobby is shopping.

Discover the best twin stroller for you by answering the eight following questions.

1. What activities do you need a double stroller for?

Do you do most of your shopping in malls? Do you like to jog or take long walks around the neighborhood in all types of weather? Are you a frequent traveler?

The activities you do most often will decide what type of twin stroller you should choose, whether it be a regular twin mall stroller, a lightweight (ex. umbrella) twin stroller, a twin jogging stroller or a double all-terrain stroller.

2. Which seating design would best suit your needs?

Double strollers come in two seating designs: tandem (one child in front of the other) or side-by-side. Both designs have their advantages and disadvantages, so it's important for you to think carefully about what your lifestyle will be like with twins or two children of different ages (although this is not easy to do before actually living through it!).

3. What are the ages and temperaments of your children?

Your double stroller needs will be slightly different if you're the parents of twins than if you have a baby and an older child. Some double strollers are true twin strollers, meaning they have features that are meant to accommodate two children of the same age, such as the ability to clip in two infant car seats. There are also double strollers that are designed so that a toddler can sit in the front seat where he can have a better view and more leg room while baby brother or sister sleeps comfortably in the fully reclining rear seat.

Many parents find that side-by-side double strollers help keep the peace between children because they prevent arguments about who gets to sit in the front seat. On the other hand, being side-by-side can also create other problems with the two children sitting in such close proximity.

4. How often are you going to use the twin stroller?

If you're only planning on using a stroller for quick errands to the mall a couple times a week, you don't need to purchase a heavy-duty, high-end double stroller with many features. However, if you like going for walks or runs on a daily basis, or if you go out with your kids often and for long periods of time, you should consider getting something that is comfortable and durable, since twin strollers take twice the abuse of single strollers.

5. Who will be using the stroller?

Keep in mind the height and stride of the person or persons who will be using the double stroller the most, as well as their physical strength. It's no fun pushing a stroller with a handle that is too low or too high for comfort and neither is folding and picking up one that is cumbersome. It's true that twin strollers are heavier and bulkier than single strollers due to their very nature, but there are models on the market that are easier to handle than others.

6. What features are you looking for?

Do you want a simple, no frills twin stroller, or something with lots of comfort, durability and storage space? This brings us back to the types of activities you do most often. It's very disappointing to purchase a stroller and then realize that its features don't meet your needs as well as they could have.

7. How much space do you have for transporting and storing it?

With a few exceptions, double strollers take up a lot of room. The size of your vehicle may be a big deciding factor when choosing a double model. Make sure it fits! Also, take into account where you will store the stroller at home.

8. What can you afford?

This is probably the most important question of all. Think carefully of your present and future stroller needs with your two children. What is the minimum you are willing to live with? Can you afford to pay for a higher quality twin stroller that will make your life easier in the long run, or are you willing to take your chances with a budget stroller that may break down before you're done using it? For twins, a double universal car seat carrier (stroller frame) is an inexpensive alternative to buying an actual stroller during the infant stage if you're yet not sure what you'll need later on.

Once you've determined what you really need, then you can begin researching the various brands and models that are on the market. Read as many twin stroller reviews as possible. You will be able to quickly eliminate double strollers that don't fit your criteria, making the whole process a lot easier and less time-consuming.

Can You Really Determine the Sex of a Baby?

Many expectant parents or those looking to conceive are wondering if it's possible to determine the sex of your baby; for whatever reason they prefer one gender over another and want to conceive a boy or a girl. Their reasons for this are personal and should be respected of course, but what can parents do if they're trying to determine the sex of a baby before conception?

For one thing, never think that you're going to get a guarantee regarding the gender of a baby no matter what you do. Conception is a process that happens at a microscopic level and of course there are typically millions of sperm that are present during intercourse, so any one of those can reach an egg in order to fertilize it. The sperm itself is what will determine the sex of a baby; this has nothing to do with the mother, her age, the month of conception, the amount of potassium in the woman's system, and so on. Sperm contain one chromosome factor each; a Y chromosome will create a boy whereas an X chromosome will create a girl.

When you realize that the gender of the baby is determined simply by which sperm reaches the egg first, you realize how difficult it is to determine the sex of a baby before conception. Those sperm are so tiny that you just can't do anything to control which one reaches an egg first! They're not like pet dogs where you can call one back and send one ahead and the mother certainly has no knowledge of which one is faster than the others.

So how do parents determine the sex of a baby? The only real differences that seem to be present in the sperm is that the Y chromosome sperm travel faster but die quicker than the X chromosome sperm. To conceive a girl you may want to create an environment that is hostile to the sperm so that the weaker boy sperm can die away, and to conceive a boy you may want to have deeper penetration during sex so that the faster sperm can reach the egg quicker. Even then, to really determine the sex of a baby you should wait until you're actually pregnant and have an ultrasound from your doctor so that you know for sure, as many parents have been surprised by their baby's gender!

Wireless Video Baby Monitors

wireless baby monitors

A baby monitor is essentially a radio transmitter on a fixed frequency that puts out a nice FM signal so long as it is on. Most baby monitors transmit on a fixed frequency of 49.300, 49.830, 49.845, 49.860, 49.875, or 49.890 MHz (some have an A/B switch that lets you pick one of two of these). If the monitor is in an upstairs bedroom, in a house not covered with aluminum siding, even the simplest radio scanner can easily hear all sounds from that room. The receiver in a radio scanner is typically quite a bit more sensitive than the receiver portion of your baby monitor, and the scanner can pick up the transmission from perhaps half a mile away.

Baby monitors can be used for a large number of different practical applications. Some Baby Monitors is also useful for home security. You can use the Baby Monitor to monitor doors and windows throughout the house. Baby Monitors are also good for elderly care. Sometimes, elderly family members can be very difficult to care for, but the Home Sentinel Baby Monitor can make the task a little bit easier.

The two-piece monitor sets resemble walkie-talkies. The monitors have pale gray and royal blue plastic casing. A red "on" light and a blue "Gerry" label appear on the front of each monitor. The back of the monitors are embossed with "GERRY DELUXE BABY MONITOR MODEL 602" and the manufacturer's date code. The date code appears as a circle of numbers, with an arrow pointing to the number of the month and the two-digit year number on either side of the arrow. This recall involves monitors with date codes "8806" (June 1988) through "9005" (May 1990).

Walking into a room while a child is sleeping could potentially wake him or her. Baby monitors with digital video allow parents to watch over their children without being in the room, ensuring they wont wake their child.

Newer wireless baby monitors are secure and prevent eavesdropping by using digital spread spectrum technology like many wireless phones. This technology scrambles signals traveling from monitor to receiver so that signals can't be intercepted by any outside devices.

There are many types of baby monitors available. Some of the best baby monitors offer wireless designs with color lcd's for easier viewing. Prices of some of the best wireless baby monitors are dropping and many good deals are to be had.

Unique Custom Baby Shower Gifts-The Easy Way

The invitation has been issued to the baby shower so now you have to think about what you are going to give as a baby shower gift. You could turn to your friend the world wide web and spend a few hours hunting down the perfect present, if you really wanted to spend all that time doing that. Truth is after a while that gets a little old.

You know that you want the new parents to be ecstatic over the gift, and you know that at the time you give it, the baby will not understand too much of what is going on; so ideally it would be great if the gift you gave was something that the child could look back on when they grow up a bit and start to love. Now don't think that is meant to sound selfish. That is far from the truth. You know that the parents are going to set great stock in the gift you give and it is only appropriate if the child will be able to enjoy that value as well.

Some people might say that the best gift to give at a shower is a practical one. you know, like one of those fake cakes made out of diapers, or some bottles of baby lotion or may even a starter subscription to a diaper service. But, really, these are just gifts that help the mother to be do work, is that really the kind of gift that she is going to remember year after year after year. I don't think so.

Its important to see that when you give a present, you really give a personalized baby gift that will honor the birth of the baby and the parents. These are the things that make the memories of a lifetime. Not piles of diapers or boxes of laundry soap. You want your gift to be treasured for a very long time. And a diaper pail is not going to cut it.

Popular gift items that do stand the test of time are precious items that can be personalized. These could be baby cups, or silver spoons, items of clothing or maybe even picture frames. They center the attention on the child and the parents and tell everyone that you made the effort to secure a truly unique gift for this occasion. A personalized gift like this is a true measure of how you feel about this new family.

But if what you are looking for is a truly unique baby gift, this is the site you need to check out:  www.AngelAndTheTelescope.com. Once you have seen what this site has to offer, no other gift will ever hold quite the same charm again.

Family With Twins Should Look At Double Strollers

baby travel gear

Families who have been blessed with twins, or who have two toddlers under the age of four, are grateful for the convenience that double strollers provide. A double stroller is sure to make life so much easier for parents. With one stroller they can easily accommodate two children up to the age or 3 or 4 without the hassle of trying to wield two different strollers and dealing with folding them and stowing them in their vehicle.

Double strollers are available in wide variety of colors and styles and are offered from a variety of different baby travel gear manufacturers. The first thing you will find is that there are two distinctly different types of double stroller models or configurations that parents can choose from, and each of these configurations come in an array of styles.

A tandem stroller model has two seats that are configured with one positioned in front of the other one. A double stroller has the two seats set up alongside one another. There are a number of advantages to each of these double strollers, as well as disadvantages that should be considered before settling on one or the other.

The most common model and most widely available, is the side-by-side double stroller. For the best handling when steering this type of stroller, it is better to use this model with twins or with two children who are fairly close to the same weight. These baby strollers are easier to maneuver over curbs, small bumps and obstacles.

Obviously, the double, side-by-side strollers are wider than the tandem stroller models, but in recent years, primarily due to feedback from parents, manufacturers have worked hard at redesigning them to be as narrow as possible so that they can fit through doorways more easily. However, it should be noted that a side-by-side double stroller will always be more challenging, awkward, and difficult to steer and navigate through crowded areas and tight aisles.

Another benefit to the side-by-side configuration is that with the children seated alongside each other, they can better interact as they grow and they also enjoy the same view from their seats. As the kids get older, this is an important factor as it will reduce the fighting and bickering that might take place over who gets to sit in the front seat. The seats of most side-by-side models don't recline fully, and if this is the case with the model you are considering, it should be used with older children and not infants.

The tandem stroller models seem to be better suited for use with a baby and an older brother or sister. With most models of these double seated strollers, the seat in the rear is able to recline fully which is perfect for the newborn, while the older sibling has a nice view from the front seat and plenty of leg room as well.

One advantage of the tandem stroller model is that is it smaller when folded up than a side-by-side stroller is when folded. They are also considerably narrower as well, which makes them easier to fit through aisles and doorways. But, the downside is that the additional length of these tandem double strollers makes them harder to turn, especially in confined areas. When shopping for a double stroller, keep these things in mind to help you make the best selection for your situation.
